The order of the Karageorge star was instituted by king Peter I in the year 1904. It replaced the order of Milos the Great as a pure family order of the Obrenovic dynasty. The order was awarded for merits towards the king and the fatherland. The order of the Karageorge star was organized in four classes as follows:
The first examples of the order have been manufactured in Vienna by G.A. Scheid up to the outbreak of WW I. After 1914 the order insignias have been produced in Paris by Arthus Bertrand and after 1921 the insignias have been manufactured in Switzerland by Huguenin. There are also examples known of the Yugoslavian producers Sorlini and Griesbach&Knaus. |
